There are many tokens available to interact with within web3. When it comes to ERC-20 tokens there are a few fundamentals that commonly get overlooked.
When transacting with a network native token (ETH on Ethereum, MATIC on Polygon, AVAX on Avalanche, etc.) all you have to do is confirm the transaction and it will get executed. When transacting with ERC-20 tokens this is a 2-step process. First you must Approve the tokens, then you can Confirm the transaction to be executed.
Yes, both steps of this process will require a gas fee to be paid.
